Lake Michigan in January » Hills of Ice (on water!)

These hills of ice are actually floating on the water! The water between us the icebergs is actually quite solid. I didn't try walking on it (that's the kind of ice sometimes kills people), but we saw a group of more daring/stupid people get across.

The ice/snow that we were standing on to take this picture was actually quite a ways from shore (100ft or more), but was still very solid (it's a good six feet thick at this point).
